What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to restore volume, enhance facial contours, soften lines, and improve areas of facial shadowing or volume loss.

Most commonly, hyaluronic acid fillers are used because hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the skin that helps with hydration, volume, and support.

As we age, the face naturally loses collagen, fat, bone support, and skin elasticity. This can lead to hollowing, heaviness, folds, flattening, or changes in facial shape. Dermal filler can help restore support and improve balance in a way that looks natural and refreshed.

  • You do not need to know which product is best before your appointment. Product selection is based on your anatomy, treatment goals, tissue quality, and the area being treated. During your consultation, we will discuss the safest and most appropriate options for your face.

  • The goal at Niche Aesthetics is natural refinement, not obvious volume. Treatments are planned conservatively and strategically to support facial balance while preserving your natural features.

  • Most patients tolerate filler treatments well. Many fillers contain lidocaine, and comfort measures may be used depending on the area being treated.

  • Downtime is usually minimal, but swelling, bruising, tenderness, and mild firmness can occur.

    Most patients return to normal activities quickly, although it is best to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive heat for 24 hours after treatment.

    It is also best not to schedule filler immediately before an important event in case bruising or swelling occurs.

  • Many hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase when medically appropriate. This will be discussed during consultation if needed.

  • Filler can restore volume and improve contour, but it does not replace surgery when there is significant skin laxity or tissue descent. During your consultation, we will discuss what filler can and cannot realistically achieve.
